Do Good in Ramadan

Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim

File Jun 19, 4 04 36 AM

As-salāmu alaykum wa raḥmatu Llāhi wa barakātuh. A‘ūdhu biLlāhi mina sh-shayṭāni r- rajīm. Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Aṣ-ṣalātu wa s-salāmu ‘alá Rasūlina Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-awwalina wa l-ākhirīn. Madad yā Rasūl Allāh, madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi Rasūli Llāh, dastūr yā Mashāyikhinā fi ṭ-ṭarīqati n-Naqshbandiyyi madad Shaykh ‘Abdu Llāh ad- Dāghistāni, Shaykh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Haqqāni. Ṭarīqatunā ṣ-ṣuḥbah wa l-khayru fi l- jam‘iyyah. Ramaḍān mubārak, in shā’ Allāh.

Our Prophet (ﷺ) says in holy hadith and in khuṭbah (Friday sermon) “When the month of Ramaḍān comes, Allāh ‘Azza wa Jalla looks at your good deeds. He (jj) shows them to the angels and gets proud. “Look how My servants are happy because Ramaḍān came. How they are doing good deeds. They dedicate themselves to worshipping”. That’s why our Prophet (ﷺ) says; “Do good in Ramaḍān. Let there be goodness, good things.”

Shukur to Allāh, Ramaḍān has a manifestation. Allāh gave it a special manifestation from Himself (JJ). It is different, you can’t find it in other months. After Ramaḍān ends, suddenly it feels as if it is closed. When holy 3 months are coming, it comes slowly but when Ramaḍān ends, it stops suddenly. People get used to that manifestation, to that good taste. They feel sad as if a friend had left. Allāh shows people goodness, good things. He says; “Do good things, search for good things”. The ego on the contrary, says the opposite. They follow that.

This is a matter of belief. When belief gets stronger, you don’t care about the world. Even if you do care, you want to use the world for ākhirah. He (jj) says; “Don’t earn in this world and leave it in the world. If you leave behind good children, if you leave good things for them, it is ok. Because people collect money, wealth and fortune in this world, as if they’ll never die. This is lack of belief. Believers say; “may Allāh give us, so we can help people, so that we have good deeds”. Our Prophet (ﷺ) says in a holy ḥadīth; “If someone helps a Muslim brother it is better than doing i‘tikāf (seclusion) for 2 months in Masjid an-Nabawī. That isn’t like a normal masjid. When somebody helps people it is better than doing 2 months i‘tikāf in our Prophet’s (ﷺ) masjid. For every i‘tikāf, even if they aren’t there, but are elsewhere, the virtue of every day of i‘tikāf is such that He (jj) gives such a paradise that between East and West, three water channels each as wide as the distance between East and West – that much space in paradise Allāh ‘Azza wa Jalla gives to these people. Doing i‘tikāf is a big virtue but what is even better is helping believing brothers and sisters to resolve their problems. This is better, as our Prophet (ﷺ), the honest and the right said.

So, this world should be for ākhirah, not for this world. The purpose is not this world. It is ākhirah. If Allāh ‘Azza wa Jalla gives you the world, it will be at your service. If you run for the world, you’ll be serving this world, you’ll be its slave. May Allāh make this Ramaḍān mubārak (blessed). In shā’ Allāh, all these blessings will be opened for us. May they have blessings, both physically and spiritually. For the locals here, there are as many students coming from abroad as the people, who live here. In shā’ Allāh, it will be a blessing for them also. When you look for sprituality there seems to be little outside among the people. Like Mawlānā used to say; “ordinary people” they aren’t aware of Ramaḍān. They know nothing about religion either. With Allāh’s wisdom, there is a big spirituality on this island, Ḥalā Sulṭān being in the first place. There are more than 1000 ṣaḥābah. Their places are known. There are martyrs and awliyā’ coming after them. There are believers. Finally, Mawlānā and Hajja Anne are here. They are the spiritual caretakers of this place. There is spiritual power. Not only for here, they reach everywhere in the world. With Allāh’s permission. the power of awliyā’ doesn’t decrease, rather it increases after going to ākhirah. We see this everywhere. Anybody, who comes, even if they don’t know Mawlānā, they are telling of the karāmāt (miracles) and help of Mawlānā after he passed away.

In shā’ Allāh, here it is beautiful. One of the good servants of Allāh is here, one of the good things. These are things we need to search for. Happy are those, who know. It is good for people, who appreciate. To those, who don’t appreciate, a bead and an emerald are the same. It doesn’t matter. Many times people have found valuable diamonds, glass diamonds, emeralds. They sold it for nothing, for the price of a bead. Those, who knew the value they sold it for a million times that price. It is important to appreciate. May Allāh make us from those, who appreciate.

Keep your belief strong. Whatever Allāh says will be. For this reason, don’t have any doubt. These devils want you to doubt. They can’t do harm to people, who are connected. They can only do it to people, who are outside. They don’t have value. Valuable people in Allāh’s sight are the believers. “I’m the president, I’m rich, I’m this, that, I’m beautiful” – these have no value. It wasn’t given by Allāh. People gave honour to themselves. May Allāh give all of us persistence in this way. May Allāh give sense to non-believers. In shā’ Allāh, they find the right path. Mawlānā was saying; “May all these people be Muslims, come to the right path”. He didn’t want badness. If we say “may these people, not come to the right path”, then we will want for them bad things. We want goodness so that they come to such nice places, to beauty. In shā’ Allāh, they will come to the right path. When they do, we won’t lose anything, On the contrary we will gain. Blessings will increase. Light will increase, in shā’ Allāh.

Al-ḥamdu liLlāh we have reached the month of Ramaḍān, which Allāh ‘Azza wa Jalla He make a special thing for this month. And He is looking for people, human beings, and for believers and when they are doing good things in this month, He is happy and He is proud to say for [to] angels “Look for [at] these people, how they are respecting this month, and they are happy with this month, worshipping, doing every good thing.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said – atākum shahru r-Ramaḍān – this is in khuṭbah we said. It’s like giving good tidings. Ramaḍān it is a special month and it has something you cannot find in another month. Especially when it is finished, you feel it. You are like suddenly go [to an] empty place. But before Ramaḍān, there is Rajab, Sha‘bān beginning slowly, slowly to make these months to prepare for Ramaḍān. But when finished, you feel a sadness because it is – maybe people they are happy they finished fasting, no more fasting, no more long praying, but, even this, they are feeling sadness. Because this is giving your spiritual feeding. Your spirituality taking from this month and be happy. Because when you don’t have any spirituality you feel miserable, you feel sad. But in this month, for believers especially, it is giving [a] special gift from Allāh.

Allāh He likes people to obey. And even suffering from hunger they are catching another thing. When you are hungry, you feel, you cannot think bad things. Only you think “I am hungry” or if not, tired. But it is giving this for your body, bodily being. But for spiritual [being], it is important to not be full with food. When you are full with food, becoming like horse – you like to run this way, that way. But when you are hungry, everything you can, tied your ego, shayṭān cannot affect for you. And Allāh ‘Azza wa Jalla saying for people to do good things in this month, especially zakāt. And it is once a year but most of the people they are doing in Ramaḍān. To not forget. and to help people, it is also very important. You are doing this for Allāh.

And Allāh ‘Azza wa Jalla give this world to live – it is not for, only for living for this dunyā. No, for… You can make money, you can make everything in this dunyā. You can be strong, you can be high, you can be rich. It is not bad. But not for main aim to [be] this. The main aim [is] to use this for way of Allāh. If you do this, you are in right way. But if only running after dunyā, not giving anything for people, bringing everything for you, this it is wrong. But for, to help people, it is free. You can be rich as much you like, after you give your charity. You give for poor people, [to] help people, it is very good. Because Prophet (ﷺ) saying, there is ḥadīth also: “To help one believer to his brother for everything, [it] may be with money or physically or by tongue. To help him, Allāh rewards him more than two months i‘tikāf (seclusion) in his holy mosque [of] Prophet (ﷺ). And i‘tikāf it is this month also, after 20th of Ramaḍān. Each day, Allāh gives three …, like this world from East to West, three times bigger than this. For one day, for i‘tikāf who doing not [only] in Medina, everywhere. But in Medina, Prophet (ﷺ) especially saying and it is more reward. 60 days it is nothing comparing to this what he, believer helping his brother.

For this, we can look for business, for work, for everything. It is not forbidden. Not for dunyā [are] we doing this. Only for be strong, for help people, for help Islām, for help ṭarīqah. When you do this, even it is as Prophet (ﷺ) [said] like worshipping. We mustn’t forget this. We are, everything we do we do for sake of Allāh and, in shā’ Allāh, we hope, we are in this island. [On] this island [it] looks like the people they are forgetting religion. They are not remembering. Even if you go out of the dergâh you cannot see, maybe 95% of people they don’t know we are in Ramaḍān. But OK, it’s not important. What [is] important – this island has a special spiritual power by people, holy people, they lived here and they [are] buried here. Especially like Ḥalā Sulṭān, and there are more than 1000 of ṣaḥābah of Prophet (ﷺ). There is awliyā’ there is ṣāliḥīn there is shuhadā’ martyrs. Especially, we have Mawlānā Shaykh. He is in his holy place, and Hajji Anne. They are giving power not only for this island, for everywhere of [in the]world. Because Awliyā’u Llāh, Beloved people for Allāh, they are becoming more stronger when they pass away. When they changing their world, they are becoming more active.

So, al-ḥamdu liLlāh, we are not ya’s (hopeless) we are not hopeless for these people. And we are, Mawlānā was every time making du‘ā’ to make these people also to be, come to right way. We are not cursing people. We want good for people. Mawlānā also wanted good things for people, and the best thing for people, for human beings, [is] to come for right way, to know their Creator and believe in Him, and respect Him. This is the best thing for them, [that] we can make du‘ā’ for them. We are not cursing them, because curse not good. Better to make du‘ā’, pray for them, for human beings to come to right way. In shā’ Allāh. For this, sake of Prophet (ﷺ), mashāyikh, Mawlānā Shaykh, and for the sake of Ramaḍān. In shā’ Allāh

Be With The Truthful

Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim

As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. Audhu billahi min ash-shaytani r-rajim. Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. As-salatu wa s-salamu ala Rasulina Muhammadin Sayyidi l-awwalina wa l-akhirin. Madad ya RasulAllah, madad ya Sadati Ashabi RasulAllah, madad ya Mashaykhina, dastur, madad ya Sheikh Abdullah Faiz Daghestani, Sheikh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani, dastur. Tariqatuna s-sohbah, wa l-khayru fi jam’iyyah.

If you want to be relaxed in this world, you can be with truthful people only, those whose personality and actions match each other. “Ya ayyuha llathina amanu ittaqu Allaha wakunu m’a s-sadiqin.” (9:119) The order of Allah is to fear Allah and to be with truthful people. Both are the good commands of Allah. They are for your benefit. Allah is not in need of anyone. He won’t receive any benefit. Even if all your actions are good, they have neither benefit nor harm for Allah. Both their harm and benefit is for you.

Therefore, everybody knows in this life that going with a liar is not liked by anyone. Just like disliking a liar, you should also be a truthful one so that people can be friends with you. Be a desired person. There is no need to lie for the sake of someone. Our Prophet‎ﷺ says when a person starts telling lies, slowly slowly he is written as a liar in the presence of Allah. And a true person is written as a truthful one in the presence of Allah by telling the truth. Because when a man starts lying, he tells another lie to support his previous lie. Going like this until his whole his life is built upon lies. He will have wasted it. He won’t be a beneficent man. And its harm will be more for himself.

The truthful are the Prophets. Sahabas (companions) are truthful, Awliya are truthful, believers are truthful. Be with them. No need to go after those who promise you something everyday and don’t keep their promises. We must follow the way of Allah, the way shown by Allah. This is the beautiful way to be in comfort in this life and to be saved in akhirah, the real life, haqq-ul hayat, the life of akhirah. Holy Quran is the book of all mankind, all universe. “Wa la ratbin wa la yabisin illa fi kitabin mubeen.”(6:59) Everything is there. There are short things but they show the way too. They are beautiful things. They keep light in people’s lives. Some people are blind, they don’t see. That is different. But this is enough for people even though it’s short.

Today we are saying, [it is an] order of Allah, holy verse: “Ya ayyuha lladhina amanu ittaqu Allaha wa kunu m’a s-sadiqin” (9:119) Allah ordering us to be afraid from Allah. How to [be] afraid? To not do wrong things, to see He is seeing us, what we are doing. He is, everything He knowing, nothing can hide. Second thing – Be with trustful people who are saying truth, people. Don’t be with liars. And this is for our, human being’s benefit. Allah [is] showing us these good ways because for Allah [there is] no benefit from what we doing. We done, we do, we will do – No benefit at all for Allah. No harm also for Him. He is Creator. Everything for you, for people, for human beings. Allah showing good way and to be with good people, not liar people. It is even for normal people, it is good.

So, don’t be liar! Because, hadith as-Sharif, Prophet ‎ﷺ saying: There are people, they are speaking, lying ones. After [that] lying again and they it is like habit for them and they will be written in Divine Presence as liars. And other who say truth, he saying truth every time saying truth. Allah write in Divine Presence they are true man, good man. Because when you saying truth, [it is] true – no need to put another truth near it; it is OK. But when somebody lying and saying lie he must put another one near it. Because it is weak and it is not enough, he will put another, another, another until whole life he will be in, built on lies.

This is you must be away from these people who are promising and not doing, and they are lying [their] whole life. You must be away from these people. Allah ordered to be with true-saying people. And it is easy for people to live with good people, not easy to live with not trustful (trustworthy) people. It’s for our benefit.

And the Qur’an Azimu sh-sha’an, everything in this life [is] written on it, inside it. Inside [the] Qur’an, Holy Qur’an. And Allah give us way, showing us [the] way how to be happy here and hereafter. Even small orders but it is only for our benefit. Allah, as we said, all human beings if they are right nothing good for Him, no benefit for Him or even all they are wrong way, also no harm for Allah. Only for us and He is Creator and He is showing us how to be with whom we must be and who we must follow. Who … Be with good people, trustful people. Don’t be with other people and you [will] be happy and here and hereafter also. And we must learn to say [the] true – to not learn at all to say a lie. To not be habit for you to be [a] liar. It is not good to writing in Divine Presence ‘This man liar!’ It is shame for these people!

Allah keep us in the right way, and write us in good people, trustful people in Divine Presence.

Wa min Allah it-Tawfiq Al-Fatiha

● Our Lord Almighty says: Draw near to Me! I will grant you a place in My Eternal Kingdom, where you will abide in ever-lasting beauty for all eternity.

“A flower, Shaykh Mehmet Efendi, is alive and sprouts afresh. Through its fresh green it wishes to approach Allah Almighty. Even a green blade of grass grows and puts forth flowers. For what? Let me win their hearts, let me draw close to my Lord, it says. How lovely! It springs forth from the ground, the black earth. It turns green and shows its various colours. For whom does it produce such beauty? Whom does it do this for? Ah, if only we could realize this! All the different kinds of flowers, the different types of trees, the different kinds of fruits, for what do they all grow and flower, and shine? wa-btaghū ilayhi l-wasīla. (5:35) In order to gain the Lord’s good pleasure. Eh, we have become sticks of dry wood. Dry wood. Our Lord Almighty says: Draw near to Me! I will grant you a place in My Eternal Kingdom, where you will abide in ever-lasting beauty for all eternity. Do not dry up and perish. Allahu Akbar. Subhan Allah, Sultan Allah.”

Mawlana Rumi

Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim

Mawlana Sheikh Mehmet Adil (QS), sohbat, February 19, 2015.

As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

Audhu Billahi min ash-shaitani rajim. Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. As-salatu wa salamu ala Rasulina Muhammad Sayyidi l-awwalin wa l-akhirin. Madad ya RasulAllah, madad ya Sadati Ashabi RasulAllah, madad ya Mashaykhina, dastur, Mawlana Sheikh Abdullah Dagestani , Mawlana Sheikh Nazim al-Haqqani, dastur.

• Jalaluddin Rumi, he is one of the biggest Sheikh, murshid and teacher.

Masha’Allah, we see these children and their Sheikh, making Jalaluddin Rumi way sama. Whirling, whirling derwish. This is good for teaching them good things from small age, beginning to learn nice thing. Because Jalaluddin Rumi, he is one of the biggest Sheikh, murshid and teacher. His father also was very big murshid, very religious scholar, alim in his time. And you know, many people they don’t know they come from Balkh. It is area Balkh. It is very far from Konya. His father, he was Sheikh of Sultan in Balkh.

Sultan was happy with him, but at the end, when Sultan don’t want to listen to him, he said, “I must go from there”. Because his father also big awliya, told Sultan to not fight with Mongols. Must be, ask them what they want. But Sultan, he was proud and not listening to him, so he said “I am leaving, you can do what you want because I know it will be not good for people here.” So he take his family and went to Konya but in many places he stopped. After 7 years he arrived to Konya and many years after, in Konya, his father he passed away.

And Mawlana, he was very connected with his father. He was very sad. Long time he didn’t speak to anybody until he slowly, slowly opened again. Time of his father was where he giving speech in mosque. All Konya people coming, listening. Ulama, scholar, mashayikh, they coming and listening to his father. He was his teacher also. Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi’s teacher, teaching him from the books of knowledge. All knowledge he was showing him. Every book he was giving him exactly meaning and wisdom.

He was in highest in knowledge around. After his father he was the highest one. All the ulama, they’re waiting him to give them lessons, when sheikh, but he was unhappy, so he couldn’t do this for a long time. After slowly, slowly, he began and he was like his father. All ulama accepting him, they are happy with him. Everywhere was full up. You cannot find a place in mosque to listen to him. They were coming, sitting outside also. But he was feeling he needs more. It was not enough for him, this knowledge, because knowledge is not enough to know, and to be in real love with Allah.

• So he was seeing in his dream, in Damascus, Shams Tabrizi.

There must be somebody teaching. So he was seeing in his dream, in Damascus, Shams Tabrizi. Unfortunately, we won’t speak too much in detail but after this Shams Tabrizi coming to Konya and meeting him there. And he accept him to be his guide to true love. But of course his type of speaking, or behaving, or wearing, it was different from that area and people, they weren’t happy with him. And he was giving himself completely to Shams Tabrizi and was making khalwat and speaking with him.

Sometimes days they are not going out, only speaking. So people were not happy at all with Shams Tabrizi. Ulama, everybody, they are angry and said “He take our Sheikh from us. He’s not good man. How Mawlana following him?” They were not happy with Shams Tabrizi. Long story to say but the main thing is that Mawlana was in highest place in knowledge, in ilm. And he was knowing the value of Shams Tabrizi and he was not listening to anybody. At the end of course, some people, they make Shams Tabrizi shave and they disappear him. Nobody can find him, where he is.

• The Mathnawi Shareef

Of course, for Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi it was a terrible thing but because he was learning from Shams Tabrizi to accept everything, he was patient and he put his pain to be away from his guide, his teacher and the most loved one in the world. It is not easy but from teaching of Shams Tabrizi, he was carrying this. And he write many books. The famous one, the Mathnawi Shareef. Mathnawi, it is real incredible book. It is teaching and showing the finest details in human being. There are many stories, many wisdoms, it is really very nice book, it is poems. He make it in poem, more than 5,000-6,000 piece, poems.

It is beginning from poem, speaking about bamboo because they make this ney from it. Describing that it was in bamboo field and somebody coming, cutting it. In this he also described himself. After they make opening on its body to make hole. After this they putting in oven, burning little bit. After this it is making this sad, nice voice coming from the ney. First it must suffer to be different from other. This is from his teaching, nice teaching. Many stories also inside this book. Some of them funny but it’s nice, very nice.

I will speak one other. They say one time there was one trader in one place and he was broke, aflas, and because people, they know him he’s trader, so he was going here and there and taking, saying, “I give you later”, and he don’t have money. He couldn’t give anything but people, they were angry and said for government “This man making this for us”. So what they will do? Old time there is custom. City, old time it’s not big, maybe in one day they all can go around and tell people for this man.

They put him on camel. One camel, it was belonging to one Kurdish man. They put this man on top of camel and Kurdish man, he going with him. And another man, old time no media, so one strong voice, he was announcing to people, “O people, this man he is broke, don’t give him anything, if he wants, none, or if he want something, he says “I will give you later”. Don’t give him because you cannot get it anymore and government not responsible for this.” Every small street, everywhere from morning until nighttime, they were going and this Kurdish man, the owner of camel, together.

So it must be, everybody they hear about this man. And night time, they said “Ok, finished.” And say to this man “Ok, you go”. Because old time: al muflasun la yahbasun. If anybody is broke, you cannot put him in jail. So he want to leave and go, this Kurdish man who owned camel. He said “Give me my wages, all day I was with you. All day I’m tired, give me my money.” They said, “What are you talking about? Today from morning to evening, there was this man announcing, you didn’t hear?”

Mawlana Rumi is showing this about people who are in life. Every minute Allah gives them example, “Don’t do this, don’t do that. Do this, do that.” And at the end, they are coming without anything. This is the loser, like this man. So he is teaching millions of people. Non- Muslims also, they are interested for this book. They are attracted for this whirling dancing also. Many people became Muslim also from this. And he was real ahl al-sunnah wa l-jama’a. He was against these pretending people. Alhamdulillah tonight, maybe from these people his baraka is coming on us. From his baraka also.

Wa min Allahi tawfeeq. Al-Fatiha.

A Logical Investment

Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim

Mawlana Sheikh Mehmet Adil (QS), sohbat, March 17, 2015.

As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

Madad ya RasulAllah. Audhu billahi min ash-shaytani r-rajim. Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. As-salatu wa s- salamu ala Rasulina Muhammadin Sayyidi l-awwalina wa l-akhirin. Madad ya RasulAllah, madad ya Sadati Ashabi RasulAllah, madad ya Mashaykhina, Mawlana Sheikh Abdullah Faiz Dagestani, Mawlana Sheikh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani, Qutub Osman Efendi Hz. madad.

• Allah Azza wa Jalla created this world as a tool, a means for investing in akhira.

Shukr to Allah, we are meeting again after several months in presence of the Saint. There are various people, but these people, the saints have the power of attraction. He can bring people from all over the world here. He doesn’t leave it empty and makes it full, shukr to Allah. The burden of this world is keeping people busy. People should actually think about akhira. Allah Azza wa Jalla created this world as a tool, a means for investing in akhira.

It is not logical when a man forgets the main purpose and falls for the tool. He should differentiate between them. If he follows his ego, forgets about the main target and falls for unnecessary things, then suffers from it, he will have lost and in the end go empty handed. There have been many people, billions of people since Adam, alaihi salam. Most of them forgot about the main purpose and fell for unnecessary things. So too with people nowadays. This is important to put into their minds.

Allah Azza wa Jalla gave thousands of examples in Qur’an, and in the hadith of our Prophetﷺ, and in old books. Here is another big example, if you ask people about the richest person in the world now, everyone will know his name, they will say this is the richest man. Who is the richest person of all times in this world? Qarun (Korah). Qarun was a relative of Hz. Musa. He probably was his uncle, a husband of his aunt. He was a close relation of Musa, alaihi salam.

Allah Azza wa Jalla told Musa, alaihi salam to write the Torah in gold. Musa, alaihi salam, told Allah Azza wa Jalla “I don’t have a penny, how can I write in gold?” Allah Azza wa Jalla had given the science of alchemy to Musa, alaihi salam. He turned some element into gold and wrote the Torah. Qarun was a poor man with children and he was a good person. He was praying day and night, fasting, worshipping, doing everything he could. Praying until morning and the children were nearly dying of hunger. Musa, alaihi salam felt upset at this as nothing seemed bad. He was truly a good person.

Musa, alaihi salam then thought as he was such a good man, his children should be in comfort. So he taught him alchemy . When Qarun learned it, he started making money. As the money increased, he forgot the main target, he fell for the tool. He forgot the target and ran after money. He collected so much money that it took 70 camels just to carry the keys of his treasures. He had one thousand guards with golden swords, a thousand men and a thousand women. His richness could not be imagined. He was the richest person of all times in this world. Since Allah created Adam, alaihi salam there has been no man richer than him.

Musa, alaihi salam told him to give zakat for his wealth. First he thought about it, then he decided it’s not possible and told Musa, alaihi salam, he would give it, because if he said no, he would fall in the eyes of his nation. Allah Azza wa Jalla is showing something in Qur’an. Some people with a weak ego would wish they had been as rich as Qarun. Though Musa, alaihi salam spoke to Qarun, he objected, saying he had made everything from his science, collecting so much money. He said “Why should I give zakat?” Musa, alaihi salam was a majestic prophet, he became angry at Qarun.

Qarun realised that because he wouldn’t give up he would make a trap to belittle Musa alaihi salam in front of people so that he may be released from the word he had given. He went to a prostitute and offered to pay her if she claimed that Musa alaihi salam had committed adultery with her. He gave her so much money that the woman agreed. She was doing everything for money anyway. Musa, alaihi salam, was giving a sohba, majestically making a khutba to his nation, telling them not to rob, not to kill, not to commit adultery etc. and that, there is big punishment for adultery.

Qarun got up and asked if it applied to him as well. He said, “If I do it, I will be punished too”. Qarun said, “There is a woman here who claims you committed adultery with her. Stand up, woman, confess”. Allah Azza wa Jalla certainly protects His Prophet. The woman got up and said, “This man paid me so much money so I may accuse you. He’s lying. Musa, alaihi salam is clean. He didn’t do anything. This is the liar”. Musa, alaihi salam struck his stick from anger, and the earth split open taking half of the people down. He begged repentance but Musa alaihi salam didn’t listen, in his majesty, he struck again. The earth swallowed him up with all his people.

All his money and wealth went under the ground as well. Sheikh Efendi said that it is still sinking. All his treasure is going deeper and deeper. Therefore, some people say they’re looking for Qarun’s treasure. There’s nothing like this. They won’t find it. This is a big example for people that this man could live million years with that treasure. But as we said, despite seeing so many miracles in his short life, he was defeated and destroyed by his ego. His money brought him no benefit.

There are thousands of stories like this. People listen but most of them don’t take a lesson from it. Insha’Allah, may we be the ones who take a lesson in order to not forget our true target. The target is to reach Allah. You still live, rich or poor. Allah gives provisions to everyone. Nobody dies while his provision is appointed. If a man dies of hunger, then his rizq has finished, that much was written for him. He dies of hunger. And no one lives longer by eating more. One can die from overeating as well.

Allah Azza wa Jalla said to Musa, alaihi salam, “O Musa, this man asked for mercy from you and you didn’t accept it. He asked 4 times. If he asked Me sincerely once, I would forgive him”. There is big wisdom there. That person has forgotten Allah even in that position. Whether he was tricking for himself to be rescued, or something else, he forgot Allah. Even with a trick, Allah is merciful. He would accept and forgive. No one has the mercy Allah has. The Mercy of Allah is huge and endless. No matter how much you sin and make mistakes, Allah will forgive. It is good news.

If Allah was merciful to the nation of Musa, alaihi salam, He could be a thousand times more to the nation of our Prophetﷺ. During ancient times, in times of Musa, alaihi salam, if someone did wrong, Allah’s anger would cover the whole village. Now if a whole village does wrong and one man does right, everyone will be forgiven and shown mercy for his honor. At least, blessings won’t stop in this world. Therefore, we see Jewish people now, wherever they go, they stick to their religion, but ours, not so much. They treat it very carefully because then Allah had ordered so to Musa, alaihi salam and they follow him ever since.

However they’re still forgetting the main thing that Musa, alaihi salam had said about our Prophetﷺ. They didn’t accept him because he wasn’t from them. They came up to Madina so that he would be one of them. Even then he didn’t and they didn’t accept. Of course, some accepted. But the main majority didn’t accept. They had the greatest scholar Ka’ab al-Ahbar. When he became Muslim, he said “When they come to our Prophet, ask them about me, what kind of person I am. Then after they speak about me, tell them I became Muslim.”

So they came to speak and the talk reached this Sahaba. When asked about him, they said he was one of their greatest scholars. His fathers and grandfathers were from very good people. They described him so well, then our Prophet said “You described him as a good man. If he believes in me, will you believe too?” They said it was impossible and started swearing at this man. They accept truth as they like. They don’t accept the real truth. They have made a picture and they follow it. They follow their ego. It is a virtue to accept the truth. May Allah make us among those accepting the truth and truthfulness, insha’Allah. May Allah be pleased with you.

Wa min Allahi tawfeeq, al-Fatiha.
